A SMALL TOOL FOR YOUR NETWORK
DNS record lookup
Look up A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT and NS records with Cloudflare’s public DNS resolver, including returned values and TTL.
Ready. Run the tool to see your result.
How to use this tool
- Enter a domain such as example.com, without a scheme, path or port.
- Select A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT or NS and run the lookup.
- Read the value, DNS status and TTL. NXDOMAIN means the resolver considers the name nonexistent.
A and AAAA map names to IPv4 and IPv6. CNAME creates an alias, MX handles mail, and TXT often carries verification data. TTL controls caching; recent changes may still be cached elsewhere.
Worked example
Example input
example.com · AIllustrative record: A 192.0.2.1, TTL 300 seconds Meaning: map the name to an IPv4 address, cacheable for 300 seconds
192.0.2.1 is a documentation address, not a live answer for example.com.
Common questions
Does an empty CNAME answer mean DNS is broken?
No. A name may use A or AAAA records directly, and some providers flatten CNAMEs. NOERROR with no matching answer differs from NXDOMAIN, which indicates a nonexistent name.
Why can my local DNS answer differ?
This tool queries Cloudflare’s public resolver. Local caches, ISP resolvers, geographic DNS policies and cache expiry can produce different answers. This is not a global multi-location DNS test.
Data sources & privacy
Your entered domain and record type are sent through this site to Cloudflare’s public DNS resolver. The resolver may log queries; answers reflect that resolver’s view.
